Please note that effective 1st February 2022, MASM registered specialists will be designated premier. This is part of the standardization process whereby the same conditions apply to all specialists regardless of where they practice.

To members this means that as with all premier service providers, MASM will cover 90% of the outpatient specialist bills for VIP members and 75% for EXE members, on the agreed rates. The services affected include specialist consultation and all the ancillary services ordered by the specialist. The services excluded are admission, dialysis, oncology lab and drugs which remain at 100% coverage subject to agreed tariffs and respective sub-limits.

The other pre-requisites like referral letter, waiting periods remain unchanged.

Notice is hereby given that the Thirty Sixth Annual General meeting of the Medical Aid Society of Malawi (MASM) will be held on December 11th 2020 at 14:00 hours at Mzuzu Hotel in Mzuzu to transact the following business.


  • To approve minutes of the Thirty Fifth Annual General meeting held on December 11th 2019
  • To receive and adopt the Chairman’s report for the year ended June 30th, 2020.
  • To receive and adopt the Annual Financial Statements and report of the Auditors for the year ended June 30th 2020
  • Election of office bearers.
    1. To elect a Director to represent the interests of Member Firms. Mr. J. Biziwick would be retiring at this Annual General Meeting.
    2. To elect a Director to represent the interests of Individual Members. Pastor Mrs. T. Masiku would be retiring at this Annual General Meeting.

      In accordance with the Constitution, nomination papers for the above positions should be delivered to the secretariat at least 7 clear days before the holding of the AGM. The papers need to be signed as follows: -
      1. in the case of a representative of member firms, by not less than three member firms; and
      2. in the case of an individual member, by not less than ten individual members.
  • Directors fees for the ensuing year.
    1. Directors Fees


      K2,900,000 per annum (from K2,400,000) payable quarterly in arrears.

      Deputy Chairman

      K2,700,000 per annum (from K2,200,000) payable quarterly in arrears.


      K2,300,000 per annum (from K1,900,000) payable quarterly in arrears.

  • Sitting Allowance


    K170,000 per sitting from K135,000


    K130,000 per sitting from K102,000
  •  To appoint Auditors for the year ending June 30th 2021 and authorize the directors to determine the auditor's remuneration.

  • To transact such other business as may properly be brought before the meeting.

    A member entitled to attend and vote at the meeting is entitled to complete a proxy form. The proxy form needs to be deposited at the Secretariat office not less than forty-eight hours before the time for holding the meeting and in default the instrument of proxy shall not be treated as valid. Proxy forms may be obtained from the Board Secretary’s office.

On 18th June 2020, the Medical Aid Society of Malawi and NICO Life Assurance Company entered into a partnership where the MASM funeral benefit will now be provided through the MASM Group Funeral Policy, underwritten by NICO Life. The MASM Group Funeral Policy takes effect from 1 st July 2020.

The MASM Group Funeral Policy provides enhanced funeral benefits that ensure the deceased member is accorded a decent and dignified funeral service in line with our promise and commitment of being “with you from the cradle to the grave”.

Through this policy, the funeral benefit shall be provided as a service through registered funeral parlours to ensure consistency and quality of service. All active MASM members are covered under this MASM Group Funeral Policy.

In the event of the death of a qualifying MASM member, please immediately contact your nearest MASM or NICO Life office for assistance.
